The Requirements for Membership
To join the Order of DeMolay you must:
- Be a male between the ages of 12 and 21
- Believe in a supreme being
- Be of good character and reputation
- Petition a DeMolay Chapter

What is the initiation like?

When you join DeMolay, you need not fear that you will be subjected to "horseplay", embarrassment, or ridicule; for these things have no place in the DeMolay initiation. There are two degrees you will receive. The Initiatory Degree is one of great solemnity and dignity. It is a service of consecration, in which you dedicate yourself to unfaltering love of God, Home, and country.

The DeMolay Degree is one of dramatic intensity and depicts the great lesson of fidelity. It is much like going to a theater and witnessing a thrilling drama.

Those who participate in the conferring of these two degrees are young men like yourself. The ritualism of DeMolay weaves in and out through the entire tapestry of the DeMolay Movement. It always makes a DeMolay proud of his membership.

DeMolay Sponsorship

Each DeMolay chapter is sponsored by a recognized group of Masons. DeMolay is in no way, however, affiliated with the Masonic institution, nor is it a junior Masonic organization. Masonic sponsorship enables DeMolay chapters to have dependable, consecrated leadership and the use of Masonic Buildings to house DeMolay activities.

The immediate supervision of every DeMolay chapter lies in the hands of an Advisory Council. This Advisory Council is composed of interested Masons from the sponsoring body and other interested adults. One of the members of the Advisory council is designated the "Chapter Dad" and is the main counselor and advisor to the chapter members. The Chapter Dad is a friend whom each member of a chapter can look to as a person to whom problems can be taken with understanding

Life Membership

Back in 1959, the organization made it possible for every new member to become a life member of DeMolay through the payment of one all-inclusive fee. This single fee reflects not only a financial savings over the old system of an initiation fee plus yearly dues, but also a guarantee that you will always have the benefits and privileges afforded a DeMolay member for the rest of your life.
